RD: 22 Medals in Bolivarian Games; Taekwondo Shines, Skiing and Gymnastics Stand Out

LIMA, Peru – The Dominican delegation maintains its firm pace in the XX Bolivarian Sports Games, consolidating in eighth position in the general medal table. So far, the team has accumulated a total of 22 medals, distributed in two gold, seven silver and 13 bronze, while the sporting event enters its last week.

Summary of the Day

Sunday’s events were marked by outstanding performances in various disciplines, including taekwondo, boxing, rowing, modern pentathlon, and table tennis. In addition, the achievements from Saturday in water skiing and artistic gymnastics were added.

Taekwondo: Silver and Bronze for DR

Dominican taekwondo shone with the medals obtained by Karla Ramos Jesurún (silver) and Yoan Sánchez (bronze) in the recognized individual modality, held at the Ayacucho Convention Center. Ramos Jesurún advanced to the final, where he faced the Peruvian competitor Carmela de la Barra. For his part, Sánchez managed to secure the bronze after a close competition. In mixed pair freestyle, Ramos and Sánchez finished in sixth position. With these two new medals, Dominican taekwondo has a total of five medals so far in the Games.

Boxing

Dominican participation in boxing had a complicated day. Yunior Alcántara was eliminated by RSC against the Venezuelan Andrés Cova Mendoza. Miguel Ángel Encarnación fell by points (0-5) against Jesús Nazaret Cova Romero, also from Venezuela.

Rowing

The Dominican Republic rowing team competed in several events, obtaining the following results:

  • Ignacio Espinal: Sixth place in LM1X (200 m) with a time of 1:44.28.
  • Jancarlos Tineo Joaquín and Roderlin Rosario Liranzo: Fourth in M2X (200 m) with 1:34.62, advancing to the repechage.
  • Tineo Joaquín: Seventh place in M1X (2:02.29).
  • The mixed quartet X4X (Galay, Vásquez, Tineo and Simó): Fifth position with 1:28.38.
  • Wendy Simó Peña: Second in W1X, advancing to the repechage (1:53.36).
  • Galay and Simó: Seventh place in W2X (2:02.07).

Modern Pentathlon

In the women’s fencing test, Cecilia Fermín placed second with 178 points, while Ana Arias Macías occupies the eighth position with 254 points.

Table Tennis

The Dominican women’s team, made up of Eva Brito, Arianna Estrella, Esmerlin Castro and Yasiris Ortiz, began their participation with a 3-1 victory over Peru in the team event.Paolo Pigozzi won the gold in overall water skiing, scoring 2216.36 points and narrowly beating Chilean Sergio Barrientos (2216.04). Andrea Pigozzi won silver in women’s jump with a mark of 49.90 meters. In artistic gymnastics, Wilfry Manuel García won the bronze medal in the vault event with a score of 13.649. With these performances, the Dominican Republic continues its participation in the 2025 Bolivarian Games, awaiting new medal opportunities in judo, tennis, open water, boxing, and team taekwondo in the coming days.
