Puerto Rico Crushes Dominican Republic in the Women’s U19 World Cup

The Puerto Rico U-19 women’s team achieved a resounding victory this Sunday in the U-19 Women’s World Championship held in Croatia, defeating the Dominican Republic in straight sets with scores of 25-22, 25-12 and 25-19. This result meant the elimination of the Dominican team from the tournament. With this defeat, the Quisqueyan team concludes the preliminary phase with a 0-4 record, being left out of the next round. Now, the Dominican Republic will compete for the consolation positions starting Monday.

Total Domain of Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico, which obtained its first victory in the championship, showed a solid game in all aspects, excelling in defense and tactics. The Puerto Rican libero was fundamental in stopping the Dominican attacks. In attack, Diangelie González and Johansyashka Carrasquillo led with 12 points each, along with Pamela Agosto, who contributed 7 units. The Puerto Ricans took advantage of defensive errors and inconsistency in the Dominican team’s passing, achieving 5-0 rallies in the first two sets, which gave them control of the match.

Dominican Republic: No Reaction

For the “Caribbean Princesses”, Ámbar Hernández was the most outstanding player with 11 points, followed by Julie Arias and Ryne Mondesí, both with 5 points, and Victoria Filpo with 4.

Although in the third set the Dominicans managed to lead for the first time (6-3), Puerto Rico reacted quickly, led by Carrasquillo and González, tying the score 11-11 and regaining control of the set. From that moment on, the Puerto Ricans secured the victory with key partials.

The Dominican team must now focus on improving its position in the final tournament standings.
