Santo Domingo – The Sports Directorate of the National Police (PN) paid tribute to Major General Ramón Antonio Guzmán Peralta, recognizing his outstanding work in strengthening police sports and his support for sports initiatives in vulnerable neighborhoods.
General Jacobo Mateo Moquete, Director of Sports of the institution, presented an infographic illustrating the most relevant sporting events during the administration of Guzmán Peralta. Under the administration of Guzmán Peralta, the sports area was promoted to the rank of Directorate, which led to the expansion of technical staff and the promotion of sports projects in areas such as Los Guandules, La Ciénega and La Zurza. In these areas, the Police have strengthened their ties with clubs, churches and community leaders. A significant achievement was the inclusion of deaf-mute athlete Cristopher Melenciano, international medalist and champion of the 400 meters in the Military Sports Games of 2024 and 2025. The recognition was attended by the Cycling and Boxing teams, champions in the FA-PN 2025 Sports Games, who achieved first place after 15 and 10 years, respectively. The Weightlifting discipline was represented by the outstanding Olympic weightlifters Beatriz Pirón and Yudelina Mejía, both members of the Police. Yudelina Mejía achieved a historic milestone at the World Weightlifting Championships in Norway, becoming the first Dominican to win a Gold medal in a world or Olympic event in this discipline. As recognition of her achievements, Mejía was promoted to Sergeant and Beatriz Pirón will be promoted to Second Lieutenant after obtaining her university degree in Accounting. It is a gesture of gratitude from all the members of our Directorate.
