Australian Oscar Piastri, McLaren driver, consolidated his lead in the Formula One World Championship by triumphing at the Dutch Grand Prix, the fifteenth race of the season, held in Zandvoort. In this circuit, his teammate and main contender for the title, Briton Lando Norris, was forced to retire. Spanish drivers Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) and Carlos Sainz (Williams) finished in eighth and thirteenth place, respectively.

Piastri dominates in Zandvoort

Piastri, 24 years old, added the ninth victory of his career in F1, the seventh of this year, prevailing on the Dutch track. The local idol, four-time world champion Max Verstappen (Red Bull), obtained second place, while the French debutant Isack Hadjar (RB) celebrated his first podium by finishing third. The Melbourne driver controlled the race from start to finish, in a race marked by the intervention of the safety car on three occasions. Piastri now leads the championship with 309 points, surpassing Norris by 34 points, whose car suffered an oil leak nine laps from the end. Verstappen, with 104 points less, was cheered by his fans. George Russell (Mercedes) finished in fourth place, followed by Thailand’s Alex Albon, Sainz’s teammate, who advanced ten positions from the grid. Argentinian Franco Colapinto (Alpine) did not score points, but achieved his best result of the season by finishing eleventh. The Briton Oliver Bearman (Haas) starred in an outstanding comeback, advancing fourteen positions to finish sixth. Lance Stroll, Alonso’s teammate, advanced twelve positions and finished seventh. Alonso, world champion, finished eighth, followed by Yuki Tsunoda (Red Bull) and Esteban Ocon (Haas), who also scored points. The next race, the Italian Grand Prix, will be held at the Monza circuit next weekend.
