The Baltimore Orioles have made significant moves to their roster, claiming Dominican outfielder Marco Luciano from the Pittsburgh Pirates’ waiver list, as announced by the club this Wednesday. Simultaneously, they designated fellow Dominican Jhonkensy Noel for assignment.

A prospect with potential

Marco Luciano, who at one point was considered one of the most promising prospects, has experience in the Major Leagues after his time with the San Francisco Giants during the 2023 and 2024 seasons. In 41 games played, Luciano batted .286, hitting 25 hits in 115 at-bats, and a slugging percentage of .590. Last season, Luciano belonged to the Pirates organization, although he did not debut in the majors. In Triple-A, the player from San Francisco de Macorís participated in 125 games, recording a .214 average, with 23 home runs, 66 RBIs, and an on-base percentage of .335.

The Case of Jhonkensy Noel

Jhonkensy Noel, for his part, had been claimed by Baltimore from waivers last Monday, coming from the Cleveland Guardians. In the 2025 season, the right fielder participated in 67 games, with a .218 average, 13 home runs, 28 RBIs, and an OPS of .774. These moves reflect the Orioles’ strategy to optimize their roster, evaluating options for the near and medium term future.
