Berlin – Bayern Munich celebrated their Bundesliga title with a 2-0 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach this Saturday, in a match with little significance in terms of standings, but loaded with emotional meaning.
Tribute to Thomas Müller
The match marked Thomas Müller’s farewell from the Allianz Arena, after 25 years of service to the club.
Müller, an icon of Bayern, reached the first team after ascending through all the lower categories, forging a career full of successes that made him the German player with the most titles in history.
Bayern’s tradition of bidding farewell to its stars in the last home match was fulfilled, with floral offerings and gestures of recognition. The English central defender Eric Dier, who is leaving for Monaco, was also honored.
However, the main focus was on Müller, who received an emotional farewell from the fans.
Bayern’s Domain and Goals
Bayern controlled the match, with a high percentage of possession. Harry Kane, who finally achieved his first title, opened the scoring in the 30th minute, taking advantage of a shot by Michael Olise.
Müller had two clear goal opportunities in the second half, but failed to convert them. In the 83rd minute, Müller was substituted, receiving an ovation and a guard of honor from his teammates.
Without Müller on the field, Olise scored the second goal in the 89th minute, assisted by Leroy Sané.
Gladbach generated several chances, but was met by an inspired Manuel Neuer, who was returning from an injury.
