Ronny Mauricio is Called Up to the Major Leagues by the Mets
The New York Mets have called up the talented Ronny Mauricio, considered the number 9 prospect according to MLB Pipeline. The news was confirmed by the team this Tuesday afternoon.
This move comes after the injury of Mark Vientos, who suffered a right hamstring injury during Monday’s game against the Dodgers, which the Mets won 4-3.
Mauricio, 24, will join the Mets for the second game of the series.The player was in the process of recovering from a torn right anterior cruciate ligament, suffered in the 2024 winter league. His last participation in the Major Leagues was in 2023, where he played 26 games with the Mets, achieving a batting average of .248, with two home runs and an OPS of .643 in 108 at-bats.
This season, he has participated in 19 rehabilitation games in the Minor Leagues, showing a batting average of .323 and an OPS of .892. Notably, in his nine games in Syracuse (Triple-A), Mauricio batted .515, with three home runs and an OPS of 1.382, which demonstrates his optimal recovery and his preparation to return to the Major Leagues.
In addition to his skill with the bat, Mauricio provides defensive versatility, being able to play in several infield positions, and has also played in left field. In 2023, with the Mets, he played primarily at second base (22 games), but also participated at third base (five games) and shortstop (two games). This season, he has played at third base, second base, and shortstop.
