Messi Reveals His Favorite Goal and Transformation into Art
The Argentinian star Lionel Messi, currently with Inter Miami, has shared which goal he considers the most special of his prolific career. The choice fell on the header he scored against Manchester United in the 2009 Champions League final, a crucial moment that helped Barcelona win the title.
“I had many goals that are perhaps even more beautiful and of much more value, also because of their importance, but the header goal in the ‘Champions League’ final against Manchester United was always my favorite”

This revelation is part of the charity campaign ‘A Goal in Life’, where the artist Refik Anadol will transform this iconic goal into a unique work of art. Messi expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration with Anadol, highlighting the artist’s ability to convert a sporting moment into an artistic piece.
Messi’s header, which sealed Barcelona’s 2-0 victory over Manchester United at the Olympic Stadium in Rome, is remembered for the impressive height of the shot and the memorable image of Messi losing a boot in the jump.
Refik Anadol, the artist in charge of the work, explained that the project seeks to explore the intersection between sport, memory, and artificial intelligence, using advanced technologies to convert data into emotion and memory into artistic form.
The ‘A Goal in Life’ campaign, led by the Inter Miami CF Foundation, merges sport and art for charitable purposes. UEFA has granted the rights to the goal images to the foundation for the creation of the artwork, which will be presented in New York on June 11th at Christie’s.
