SANTO DOMINGO – Melvyn López, recognized for his outstanding work, has been awarded as the “Leader of the Year” of the 2025 season of the Super League of the LNB, a recognition of his valuable leadership at the head of the Metros de Santiago.
López secured the award with a wide lead, obtaining the support of 36 of the 50 journalists and communicators who participated in the vote. His direction was crucial for the Metros to achieve an 8-6 record, which allowed them to tie at the top of the table in a very contested regular season.
López’s performance stood out even more by being the only leader who was present in all 14 games of his team during the regular season, demonstrating his consistency and dedication to the Santiago team.
A Repeated Achievement
This award marks the second time that Melvyn López is recognized as “Leader of the Year” in the National Basketball League. The first time he obtained it was in 2008, when he led the Reales de La Vega in the then Lidoba.
In the voting, Richi González finished in second place with six votes. Julio César Javier and Joel Félix shared third place, both with four votes.
The election was attended by press representatives from each team, as well as members of the broadcast team and journalists who regularly cover Dominican professional basketball.
The National Basketball League will announce the Most Valuable Player of the 2025 season on Friday. The finalists are Luismal Ferreiras, Juan Guerrero, and Sydney Curry.
