Paris – A police officer who received a donation from Kylian Mbappé for his protective work during the 2022 World Cup has been sanctioned with early retirement. The information, revealed this Tuesday, details that the agent, known as ‘Momo’, received 60,300 euros. Despite the sanction, the 57-year-old riot police officer, who has worked with the French Football Federation (FFF) for 21 years, will continue to provide services in the FFF security team at the 2026 World Cup, under a temporary contract that will end at the end of July. The General Inspection of the National Police (IGPN) carried out an internal investigation into the conditions of payments to agents, questioning their “loyalty”, “probity” and the lack of accountability. The police department decided to sanction the agent with early retirement on December 20, although this measure has a symbolic nature, since the agent was planning to retire in the short term. The early retirement sanction is considered one of the most severe before expulsion and is uncommon in the French National Police, with fewer than ten cases per year nationwide.

In parallel, the police commander and four other officers are being investigated by the French Justice system due to payments made by Mbappé, which total 180,300 euros. The investigation was initiated at the request of the French service against money laundering, tax fraud and the financing of terrorism (Tracfin).

According to previous reports, Mbappé consulted his tax advisor before making the donations, who indicated that it was not necessary to declare them to the Treasury. The Real Madrid player received 500,000 euros as a bonus from the FFF for the world championship runner-up and decided to donate that sum to various civic associations and to the members of the police team that protected the players.
