Santo Domingo. The outstanding Dominican sprinter Marileidy Paulino continues to solidify her legacy in world athletics. Her recent triumph at the Monaco stop of the Diamond League represents her 16th victory in 18 races in this prestigious circuit, reaffirming her dominance in the 400-meter flat race. The athlete, who debuted in the Diamond League in 2021 with a victory in Lausanne, has maintained remarkable consistency. She has only been surpassed on two occasions in this series organized by World Athletics. In Friday’s competition at the Stade Louis II in Monaco, Paulino faced American Aaliyah Butler, but managed to prevail, demonstrating her experience and determination. Despite logistical challenges and fatigue, the Dominican remained focused.

I have to thank God for everything and focus on the World Cup, which is the most important thing

Paulino has opted for selective participation this year, missing five of the seven previous circuit stops. Despite this, her results place her in third place in the overall ranking, just five points behind the leader, the Dutch Lieke Klaver. Furthermore, Paulino is close to a new milestone: becoming the first woman to win four Diamond League titles in the 400 meters. Currently, she shares the record with Sanya Richards-Ross and Amantle Montsho, both with three crowns. The next stops for Marileidy will be Silesia (August 16), Lausanne (August 20) and Zurich (August 27), where she will seek to close the season with another success and arrive in optimal conditions for the World Championships.
