Manny Machado and Austin Wells receive Dominican IDs
SANTO DOMINGO – The Central Electoral Board (JCE) officially delivered the Dominican identity card to the outstanding baseball players Manny Machado and Austin Wells. Machado, born in the United States but with Dominican roots, expressed his emotion after receiving the document. “I am finally Dominican!” he declared, highlighting his pride in representing the country in future international competitions.In the same act, Austin Wells, also of American origin but with a Dominican mother, completed his naturalization process. Wells, who is emerging as the starting catcher for the national team, has been recognized for his fluency in Spanish and his connection with Dominican culture since childhood. With these additions, both players officially join the Dominican Republic national baseball team. The delivery of the identity cards took place within the framework of the implementation of the new Dominican identity card, a project of the JCE aimed at strengthening national identity. This process symbolizes the inclusion of all citizens entitled to it, including those with Dominican ancestry. The Dominican selection is in preparation for the tournament. The team will play its second exhibition game at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium against the Detroit Tigers.My blood is Dominican.
