Santo Domingo. – The Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) has defined the managers who will lead the teams in the 2025-2026 season.
With the confirmation of Alex Cintrón at the helm of the Leones del Escogido, the six teams that will compete for the championship are completed.
Leones del Escogido: Alex Cintrón
The current champion of Dominican winter baseball is betting on the experience and leadership of Puerto Rican Alex Cintrón, who replaces Albert Pujols in the position.
Cintrón, 46, has been linked to the Houston Astros since 2017 as a hitting instructor. In addition, he has participated as a bench coach with Puerto Rico in international events such as the World Baseball Classic (2023 and 2026) and the Premier12 (2024). He also served as general manager of the Senadores de San Juan in the Roberto Clemente league, leading them to the final in the 2024-25 season. As a player, he had experience in Major League Baseball with the Diamondbacks, White Sox, Orioles, and Nationals (2001-2009).

Estrellas Orientales: Fernando Tatis
Fernando Tatis, renewed for three more seasons, has proven to be an effective strategist. In the 2024-25 season, he was recognized as Manager of the Year, after leading the team to the top of the regular season with a record of 30 wins in 50 games. Despite the injuries, Tatis led the Stars to their third consecutive final, highlighting his ability to adapt and lead.
Gigantes del Cibao: José Leger
José Leger returns to the management in LIDOM with the Gigantes del Cibao, after managing the Águilas Cibaeñas and being part of the coaching staff of the Escogido during their recent championship. Alfredo Acebal Rizek, club president, highlighted that Leger represents “discipline, commitment and strategic vision”.
Tigres del Licey: Gilbert Gómez
Gilbert Gómez will continue to lead the Tigres del Licey in the 2025-26 season. His modern approach and leadership have made him a respected figure, reaching third place in the Manager of the Year voting. The coaching staff has also been confirmed, with Héctor Borg (assistant manager), Rafael Chaves (pitching coach), Edgar Varela (offensive coordinator), José Umbría (batting coach), and Manny Martínez (third base coach).
Toros del Este: Víctor Estévez
Víctor Estévez, recognized as Manager of the Year 2024 in Advanced Class A, will manage the Toros del Este. His appointment introduces an innovative approach. Estévez was at the helm of the Escogido in 2023-24 and has been part of other coaching staffs. With 13 years of experience in the Milwaukee Brewers organization, he seeks to bring the fourth crown to the Toros.
Águilas Cibaeñas: Luis “Pipe” Urueta
Luis Urueta, “Pipe”, continues to lead the Águilas Cibaeñas. His experience in Major Leagues has earned him respect. Although he did not manage to qualify the team in the 2024-25 season, the focus is on the continuity and long-term vision of Urueta.
