Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – The Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) has announced an agreement of intent with the Miami Marlins to bring the 2028 Caribbean Series to LoanDepot Park, in Miami, Florida. This preliminary agreement lays the groundwork for a definitive contract, allowing LIDOM, as the host league, to organize the Caribbean Series in US territory, strengthening the presence of Dominican baseball internationally.
Vitelio Mejía, president of LIDOM, highlighted the relevance of this agreement as a significant step forward for the global expansion of Caribbean winter baseball. Furthermore, he acknowledged the support of the Marlins and the strategic importance of LoanDepot Park, a venue that already demonstrated its capacity during the 2024 Caribbean Series, where the final matchup between the Dominican Republic and Venezuela attracted almost 37,000 fans. The Marlins’ interest in collaborating with LIDOM demonstrates the recognition of Caribbean baseball, both for its sporting quality and its ability to attract fans, especially in Miami, a city with a Latin community passionate about this sport.
