SANTO DOMINGO.- The Leones del Escogido strengthen their roster with an important acquisition from the Gigantes del Cibao. The transaction includes pitchers Wilkin Ramos and Ángel Sánchez, infielder Jeral Pérez, and a fourth-round pick in the 2026 Rookie Draft.
In return, the Giants receive the rights to Jimmy Cordero, Fernando Abad, and Wilber Dotel, in addition to outfielder Ricardo Céspedes.
New Players Details
Wilkin Ramos, 25 years old, has proven his worth in the minor leagues of the Pittsburgh Pirates, standing out with an ERA of 2.64, 7 saves, and 68 strikeouts in 64.2 innings. He was selected by the Giants in the 2023 rookie draft and had an outstanding 2024-25 season in the LIDOM.
Ángel Sánchez, an experienced 36-year-old pitcher, brings his experience after his time with the Giants. In the summer, he had an outstanding performance with the Pericos de Puebla. His career includes participation in Major Leagues and experience in leagues in South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan.
Jeral Pérez, a 21-year-old young infielder, arrives after an outstanding season in the minor leagues, where he hit 22 home runs and drove in 70 runs. Pérez, selected in the 2024 draft, has not yet debuted in the local circuit.
The three players will be included in the Lions’ weekly roster.
The management of the Leones del Escogido expressed their best wishes to Cordero, Abad, Céspedes and Dotel, recognizing their contribution to the team, especially Cordero, who was key in the 2024-25 national championship and the 2025 Caribbean Series.
