Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan Signed Card Achieves Record Price at Auction
A card signed by basketball legends Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan sold for more than $12.9 million at a Heritage Auctions auction, setting a new record for a card of this type in the United States. This price makes it the second most expensive sports collectible of all time. The buyer of the card, belonging to the Upper Deck Exquisite 2007-08 collection, was not identified by the auction house. The card includes the NBA logo patch from Bryant and Jordan’s jerseys.According to the auction house, this is the only card in their collection that features the signatures of both players. Before the auction, the card was valued at $6 million. With a price of $12.9 million, this card surpasses the previous record of $12.6 million, set by a 1952 Mickey Mantle baseball card. In the realm of basketball, a card autographed by Stephen Curry sold for $5.9 million in 2020. The most expensive sports collectible remains a Babe Ruth jersey from the 1932 World Series, which was auctioned for $24 million.“The NBA logo, coming from a Kobe jersey, is presented in its standard patriotic color combination, the accompanying gold logo guarantees its participation in the glorious 1996-97 season, in which Jordan conquered the penultimate NBA Championship of his legendary career,” stated Heritage Auctions.
