Juan Soto Leaves Game with Foot Contusion

SAN DIEGO – Dominican outfielder Juan Soto left Tuesday’s game between the Mets and the Padres after being hit in the left foot by a foul ball. After an initial evaluation, the team reported that it is a contusion. The X-rays taken ruled out fractures, so Soto is considered “day-to-day”. The incident occurred in the fourth inning, when Soto impacted the base of his left foot with a foul. Visibly affected, he fell to his knees on the field, being attended to by the medical staff, led by the athletic trainer Joe Golia. Although he was able to hit a ground ball after three pitches, he did not return to the field for the bottom of the inning. Instead, Jeff McNeil moved to right field and Tyrone Taylor entered center field. At the time of his departure, Soto maintained an offensive line of .248/.382/.488 with 25 home runs in 107 games. This is his first season under the 15-year, $765 million contract he signed with the Mets. The New York team is optimistic about the recovery of the outstanding outfielder, although the medical staff will continue to evaluate his progress in the coming days.
