Iran Focused on World Cup: Concentration in Turkey and Friendlies

Tehran – Iran’s national soccer team is in full preparation for the next World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This was confirmed by Mahdi Taj, president of the Iranian Football Federation, who also announced a training camp in Turkey and the playing of two friendly matches. “We are preparing to participate in the World Cup. We boycotted the United States, but we did not boycott the World Cup,” Taj told Mehr news agency. Following the recent conflict in the Middle East and the loss of the Iranian supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, the Tehran regime initially considered the possibility of not participating in the tournament due to the involvement of the United States in the organization. Currently, Iranian authorities are negotiating for the national team’s matches in Group G to be played in Mexico, instead of in the US cities where they were scheduled. Iran is scheduled to face New Zealand (June 15), Belgium (June 21), and Egypt (June 26). Taj did not specify the rivals for the friendlies, but he did make these statements during the welcoming ceremony for the women’s national team at the Bazargan border. The women’s team returned after their participation in the Asian Cup in Australia, where several players requested asylum.

The members of the soccer team “gave a great response to the enemies”.

Taj added that the women returned “proud to the homeland”.
