Santo Domingo – Dominican strategist Gilbert Gómez, a member of the Tigres del Licey coaching staff, has guided the Brooklyn Cyclones, the Advanced A affiliate of the New York Mets, to the South Atlantic League championship. This achievement represents the first title for the team in this league and the third in the history of the franchise.

The Cyclones’ season under Gómez’s direction was historic. The team set a franchise record with 72 regular season wins and was crowned champion of the North Division in the first half of the schedule. In the postseason, they demonstrated their dominance with an impeccable 4-0, surpassing Greensboro and Hub City to secure the championship.

2025 has been a year of important recognitions for Gómez, who was designated as manager of the “Breakout Game” in the Major League Baseball preseason, facing his colleague and assistant at Licey, Héctor Borg. Additionally, he was named assistant to manager Albert Pujols for the next World Baseball Classic.

With a distinguished international career, Gómez also served as a batting and third base coach with the Dominican Republic national team, which won the bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Currently, the young leader is in his fifth season with the Tigres del Licey, where he has held various roles, from quality control coach to champion manager. He led the blues to the title in the 2023-24 season, in addition to participating in two consecutive Finals Series.
