Brewers Secure Gary Sánchez for Next Season
The Milwaukee Brewers continue to strengthen their team for next season. According to reports, they have reached an agreement for one campaign and $1.75 million with Dominican catcher Gary Sánchez. The organization has not yet made the deal official. Sánchez, with 11 seasons of experience in the Major Leagues, played in 2025 with the Baltimore Orioles, participating in 29 games due to physical problems. He spent time on the injured list for inflammation in his right wrist and a sprain in his right knee. After his time with the New York Yankees, where he played seven seasons, Sánchez has played for several teams, including the Twins, Mets, Padres, and the Brewers themselves, as well as a brief stint in the Minor Leagues with the Giants in 2023.Despite not maintaining the offensive consistency of his early years, Sánchez has demonstrated his power in recent seasons. In 2023, he hit 19 home runs in 72 games with San Diego. In 2025, before the injuries, he performed well in June, batting .354 with four home runs and 18 RBIs in 13 games.
If he assumes the role of substitute receiver, Sánchez could bring experience and power from the bench. In his MLB career, he has a .224 average, with an on-base percentage of .309 and a slugging percentage of .461 (OPS of .770), with 189 home runs and 509 RBIs in 859 games. The Dominican catcher was called to two All-Star Games (2017 and 2019), won a Silver Slugger Award and had two seasons with at least 30 home runs. In 2016, he finished second in the American League Rookie of the Year voting, with 20 home runs and an OPS of 1.032 in 53 games. With this signing, Milwaukee is betting on the experience and power of the veteran catcher as a depth piece in their roster for the new season.
