WEST SACRAMENTO – At a crucial moment in the season, Dominican left-handed pitcher Framber Valdez starred in a stellar performance that revitalized the hopes of the Houston Astros in their fight for the last wild card spot in the American League. Valdez’s performance was key in the Astros’ victory. After a period of difficulties, Valdez shone by pitching seven solid innings, allowing only one run and accumulating ten strikeouts. This outstanding performance led the Astros to a convincing 11-5 victory over the Athletics at Sutter Health Park, ending a five-game losing streak. With a record of 85-74, the Astros closed to within a half-game of the Detroit Tigers in the race for the third wild card. However, Detroit holds the tiebreaker advantage, forcing Houston to a flawless season-ending series against the Angels.

The Astros’ offense also proved effective, scoring nine runs in the first five innings without the need for home runs. José Altuve and Isaac Paredes, despite facing physical discomfort, led the attack with two hits each. Houston’s only home run in the game was courtesy of Christian Walker in the eighth inning. Valdez, after allowing a single to the first batter, dominated the next batter with strikeouts and didn’t allow runs until the sixth inning, when Nick Kurtz hit a home run. His ten strikeouts were the most since July 28. With this outstanding performance, the Dominican pitcher reaffirmed his ability to be the leader of the rotation at crucial moments, keeping the Astros’ hopes alive of reaching another postseason.
