These six teams, coming from different areas of the National District and Santo Domingo province, achieved their classification after a competitive process that involved more than 150 teams in the under-20 category. The tournament was recently inaugurated by the Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, and the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, at an event held at the Tony Barreiro Sports Center of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD). The main objective of the tournament is to boost the development of community basketball, promote youth integration, and discover new talents, in line with President Luis Abinader’s sports support policy. The champion team will be awarded a prize of one million pesos, while the winners of each zone have already received RD$250 thousand.

Minister Kelvin Cruz highlighted that this event is part of the sports revolution that the Government is carrying out in the neighborhoods of Greater Santo Domingo, including the remodeling of more than 30 sports courts to ensure adequate and safe spaces for young people.
