Fedofútbol Denounces Discriminatory Acts in Guatemala

The Dominican Football Federation (Fedofutbol) has issued an official statement denouncing discriminatory incidents and hostile treatment during the national team’s recent visit to Guatemala, in the context of the second round of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The statement, published on its official website, details a series of events that marred the Dominican team’s experience on Guatemalan soil. Racist insults from the stands were reported, as well as logistical delays that hindered the team’s arrival at the stadium on the day of the match. The Dominican Football Federation describes the environment as “hostile”, contrasting with the hospitality usually offered to visiting teams in the Dominican Republic.

“Unlike the hospitality that visiting teams usually receive in the Dominican Republic, in Guatemala the same level of respect or fair conditions for the participating teams was not observed”, the document states.

The federation has submitted a request to the governing bodies of international football, supporting its position on FIFA and Concacaf’s commitment against any form of discrimination, in line with the global #NoDiscrimination campaign. In this context, the Fedofútbol urges the application of the protocols recently approved by FIFA, including the “X” arm gesture to denounce racist incidents within the field of play. The letter concludes with the hope that these acts will not go unpunished and that international efforts to eradicate racism from football will be intensified.
