Escogido defeats Águilas in Santiago and consolidates third place in LIDOM

SANTIAGO DE LOS CABALLEROS – Los Leones del Escogido demonstrated their firmness in the fight for the classification to the Round Robin, by defeating this Wednesday the Águilas Cibaeñas with a score of 8-5, in a match held at the Cibao stadium. With this victory, the scarlet team consolidates its record at 21-25, maintaining the tie with the Estrellas Orientales in third place in the championship. On the other hand, the Eagles, despite the defeat, continue to lead the table with a record of 30-15. The Escogido took the lead early, scoring a run in the first inning against starting pitcher Dinelson Lamet. Socrates Brito hit a double to center field with two outs and then scored thanks to a single by Yainer Diaz. The capital’s offensive continued its attack in the second inning. Franchy Cordero started with a double to right field, advanced to third on a fly ball by Jonathan Araúz, and scored after a wild pitch by Lamet. Subsequently, José Marmolejos hit another double to right field, which allowed him to score after another errant pitch by the Aguilas pitcher. The Águilas responded in the bottom of the second inning against Travis Lakins, after consecutive singles by Ezequiel Durán and Alberto Rodríguez, which placed runners on the corners. The Eagles reacted with a home run by Elih Marrero with two men on base between left and center fields against Carlos Teller, closing the score. However, the Escogido responded with two runs in the eighth inning, driven by a double by Marmolejos to right field against Jonathan Hernández. Aneurys Zabala closed the game pitching the ninth inning without allowing runs, securing the save (1). The loss went to Lamet (1-3), who allowed the first three runs of the Leones.

For the Águilas, Elih Marrero went 1-3, with a home run, three RBIs, a run scored, and a walk, while Juan Lagares went 1-3, with an RBI and a run scored. This Thursday will be a day off in the LIDOM.
