Elvin Castillo Criticizes Bill Regulating Baseball Player Agencies
The journalist and coordinator of the program “Panorama de la Mañana”, Elvin Castillo, expressed his rejection of the bill proposed by Senator Santiago Zorrilla. This initiative seeks to establish new regulations on the signing of young Dominican baseball players, which could affect their income.Castillo warns that the legislative proposal would include taxes for the academies. According to the journalist, this measure would reduce the money that young baseball players receive when signing with professional teams.
The analyst questions the legitimacy of the State to impose taxes on athletes without having contributed to their development. Castillo has been a constant critic of the lack of public investment in sports. The communicator urged prominent figures of Dominican baseball such as David Ortiz and Pedro Martínez to speak out against this initiative. He believes that, if approved, the project will affect the economic future of numerous young people who see baseball as their main path to progress.“They are going to force the academies to pay taxes and that will necessarily come out of the players’ money. The players are going to give half to the academy in addition to the taxes, and they are going to sign for nothing”

In the past, Castillo has criticized the lack of public policies that promote sports and has highlighted the need to improve the conditions of local athletes, who currently face various limitations in their development.
