Dominican Republic Debuts with Victory in the U-12 Baseball World Cup
Tainan, Taiwan – The Dominican Republic U-12 baseball team began its participation in the World Cup with a resounding 14-8 victory over the Czech Republic. The match, played in a highly competitive environment, was characterized by the offensive displayed by both teams.
Young Bryan Zapata was the key figure in the game, excelling in both batting and pitching. Zapata went 2-for-4, including a double, driving in three runs and scoring two. From the mound, he pitched two perfect innings in relief, allowing no earned runs, walking one batter, and striking out two, earning him the win.
The Dominican team showed resilience by overcoming an initial three-run deficit, following a home run by the Czech Republic in the first inning. The response from the Dominicans was immediate, scoring one run in the second inning, five in the third, and two more in the fourth, taking the lead. However, the Czech Republic managed to tie the score at eight runs.
The Dominican offense exploded in the sixth inning, scoring six decisive runs. The rally began with a walk to Melvin Mercedes, followed by a single by Marvin Rodriguez and a double by Bryan Zapata, which broke the tie. Luis Parra contributed with a two-run single, and Carlos Rodriguez closed the inning with a home run that sealed the victory.
