DR advances to quarterfinals in U-23 Pan American Cup after defeating Suriname

The Dominican Republic’s U-23 women’s volleyball team secured their place in the quarterfinals of the Pan American Cup this Tuesday. They achieved a dominant 3-0 (25-4, 25-11, 25-7) victory over Suriname at the Domo de la Feria in León, during the third day of Group A.

With this triumph, the Dominicans concluded the preliminary phase in second place in the group, accumulating two victories and one defeat. This is their second consecutive success, after defeating Costa Rica on Monday also by 3-0.

In the match against Suriname, the Dominican Republic players stood out in the statistics: they made 33 attacks compared to their opponents’ 10 and surpassed them in blocks 8-3. The match lasted only 49 minutes.

The Dominican offensive was led by Alondra Tapia, who accumulated 13 points, followed by Hernandez with 10 and Alonzo with 8.

As a result, the Dominican team will face Canada this Wednesday, which finished third in Group B, in a quarter-final match scheduled for 7:00 pm, Dominican time. In the other quarter-final series, Cuba, second in Group B, and Costa Rica, third in Group A, will face each other.

Dominicans will seek to continue their progress in the tournament, with the goal set on the semifinals and the continental podium.
