Dominican Republic Basketball Team Defines Roster to Face the United States
SANTO DOMINGO, RD. – The Senior National Basketball Team has defined its 12-player team for the crucial match against the United States in the Second FIBA Qualifying Window, on the road to the Qatar 2027 Basketball World Cup.
Argentine coach Néstor García announced the official roster that will face the American team this Thursday, the 26th, at 11:10 PM (Dominican time), at the Arena Frontwave, located in Oceanside, San Diego County, California.
The 12 Players Called Up
From a preliminary list of 24 players registered with FIBA, the coach selected:
- Point Guards: Gelvis Solano and Richard Bautista
- Shooting Guards: Michael Torres and Jassel Pérez
- Forwards: Omar Silverio, Anyeuri Castillo and Jhery Matos
- Power Forwards: Ángel Núñez, Anderson García and Ángel Luis Delgado
- Centers: Joel Soriano and Rey Abad
The technical staff is made up of assistants David Díaz, Abraham Disla and Sergio Jiménez; delegate Nelson Saldivar; Director of Operations Carlos De León; kinesiologist Adenhaweer Díaz (Rilling) and doctor Gewill Acosta.
The information was provided by General Manager Junior Páez (Jipy), who is also vice president of the Dominican Basketball Federation, an entity chaired by Rafael Uribe.
Calendar and Group
The Dominican delegation traveled on Monday to US territory to refine the preparation details before the match against the American team.
The match is part of Group A of the qualifying phase, led by the United States with a 2-0 record. The Dominican Republic and Mexico have a 1-1 record, while Nicaragua has yet to achieve victory (0-2).
After the match against the United States, the Dominican team will face Nicaragua on Sunday, March 1st, at 9:30 p.m. (RD time), at the Alexis Argüello Sports Center, in Managua.
In this qualifying stage, 16 national teams from the American continent participate, competing for seven available spots for the 2027 Qatar World Cup.
The calendar also includes the United States’ visit to the Dominican Republic on Friday, July 3, where they will face each other at the Palacio de los Deportes Virgilio Travieso Soto, in the third qualifying window.
