Fedom Announces Luxury Reinforcements for the 2026 World Baseball Classic
The Dominican Baseball Federation (Fedom) has confirmed the incorporation of three outstanding right-handed pitchers to the Dominican team that will compete in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. The event will be held from March 5 to 17 in the United States, Japan, and Puerto Rico.
The announced pitchers are Albert Abreu, Edwin Uceta, and Huascar Brazobán, who promise to significantly strengthen the team’s pitching staff.Albert Abreu: Power and Experience for the Dominican Bullpen
The inclusion of Albert Abreu adds valuable power to the Dominican bullpen. Known for the strength of his arm and his experience in high-pressure situations in the Major Leagues, Abreu is shaping up to be a key piece in the team’s relief scheme. It will be the first time that Abreu represents the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic.Edwin Uceta: Youth and Control on the Mound
Edwin Uceta, pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays, has also been confirmed. Uceta will bring youth, control, and solidity to the pitching staff. In his professional career, Uceta has a record of 12-6, with an ERA of 3.70 and 201 strikeouts. He debuted in the Major Leagues in 2021 with the Los Angeles Dodgers and has established himself as a reliable option from the bullpen. Like Abreu, this will be his first World Baseball Classic.Huascar Brazobán: Experience and Consistency for the Team
Huascar Brazobán, of the New York Mets, completes the group of right-handed pitchers. Brazobán adds experience and consistency to the team. He has a record of 12-8, with an earned run average of 3.73 and 213 strikeouts in his career in the Major Leagues.
Brazobán played with the Miami Marlins between 2022 and 2024, before joining the Mets organization. On April 2, at 35 years old, he achieved his first save in the Major Leagues with the New York Mets, securing a victory in extra innings against his former team, the Marlins.
His career includes 27 appearances in his rookie season with an ERA of 3.09 and 50 games in 2023 with an ERA of 4.14.
So far, the Fedom has put together a broad and balanced core of players that includes Juan Soto, Manny Machado, Junior Caminero, Fernando Tatis Jr., Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Julio Rodríguez, Sandy Alcántara, Brayan Bello, Ketel Marte, Carlos Santana, Yainer Díaz, Amed Rosario, Luis Severino, Gregory Soto, Wandy Peralta, Camilo Doval, Geraldo Perdomo, Denis Santana, among others, strengthening both the offense and the pitching of the national team.
