Santo Domingo, RD. – The Dominican Republic’s women’s sabre team continues to climb in the competitive arena, preparing for the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026. Their recent participation in international events in Peru and France demonstrates their progress. The national team, composed of Heyddys Ysabel Valentín, Rossy Félix Lara, Maiber De la Cruz and Melody Martínez, represented the country in the Women’s Saber World Cup in Lima, Peru, from May 22 to 24. This event brought together the best fencers in the world.

The participation of our athletes in such a high-level event places them in a privileged position to compete in the upcoming Central American Games Santo Domingo 2026, as they face world-class rivals.

The World Cup featured the participation of 169 athletes in the individual modality and 24 teams in the team competition, awarding points for the world ranking of the International Fencing Federation (FIE). Gilberto Soriano, president of Fedomes, highlighted the federation’s effort in the international reintegration of Dominican athletes, overcoming recent challenges. “We are focused on high-level events to regain lost ground, and the results have been positive,” he affirmed. Glenis Samuel led the Dominican delegation in Peru, directing the team during the event. Simultaneously, Violeta Ramírez, a prominent figure in Dominican fencing, participated in the World Cup in Saint-Maur, France, as part of her preparation for upcoming international events and the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games. Ramírez is currently training in Italy under the direction of coach Andrés Carrillo Ayala, accumulating competitive experience against elite athletes. The Dominican Fencing Federation reiterates its commitment to high performance and the training of a competitive team, seeking historic results in next year’s regional event.
