Los Angeles Dodgers sign Kyle Tucker for $240 million

The Los Angeles Dodgers have reached an agreement with outfielder Kyle Tucker for four seasons and a total of $240 million, according to sources. The agreement, which has not yet been officially confirmed by the club, would include opt-out options for the player after two and three years. This incorporation reinforces the offense and outfield of the Los Angeles team, reaffirming its commitment to investing in elite talent. The arrival of Tucker covers one of the team’s main needs after the previous signing of closer Edwin Díaz. Tucker, who will turn 29 this Saturday, rejected a qualifying offer from the Chicago Cubs, which will allow that franchise to receive a compensatory pick in the next Draft. For their part, the Dodgers will lose their third and sixth highest Draft picks, in addition to assuming additional penalties previously accumulated for other signings. Since 2020, Tucker has stood out as one of the most productive hitters in Major League Baseball, with an OPS+ of 143. He has been a leader in home runs, stolen bases, and negotiated walks during that period. In the last six years, only a dozen position players have surpassed his total contribution in WAR, reflecting his overall impact on the game. After starting his career with the Houston Astros, with whom he won the World Series in 2022 and was selected to three All-Star Games, Tucker briefly passed through the Cubs before reaching free agency. Last season, despite injuries, he recorded an offensive line of .291/.396/.537, demonstrating his combination of power, plate discipline, and ability to produce runs. The Dodgers project Tucker as their starting right fielder, which will reconfigure the team’s outfield and strengthen a lineup that seeks to remain among the most complete in the Major Leagues for the coming season.
