Santo Domingo – The volleyball team of the National District started their participation in the Santo Domingo 2026 Women’s Games on the right foot, defeating the La Vega team in straight sets. The score reflected a clear dominance with partials of 25-14 and 25-10.

In the basketball discipline, the Costa Rican team had a mixed day on the first date of the Women’s Sports Games, held in the newly inaugurated multipurpose hall of Ciudad Juan Bosch. The Costa Rican team achieved a victory and suffered a defeat against two Dominican teams.
In the first encounter, Costa Rica defeated Dominican Republic A with a score of 50-42. María Montero, Costa Rica’s pivot, led her team with 17 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Adriana Zúñiga and Fernanda Gómez contributed nine points each.
In the second game, Dominican Republic B recovered and defeated Costa Rica with a score of 55-53. Katherin Sena was the key player with 15 points, followed by Audrei Peña with 14. Vanessa Bau also had an outstanding performance, scoring five points and 13 rebounds.Women’s Sports Games: An Event of International Relevance
The international competition, which brings together approximately 680 athletes, was inaugurated on Thursday and will run until next Sunday. This event marks the return of the Women’s Sports Games after a decade-long hiatus, driven by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.
The current edition of the Women’s Sports Games is dedicated to Doña Melba Segura de Grullón, and the Organizing Committee is led by the outstanding athlete Marileidy Paulino, world and Olympic champion.
The event offers competitions in a wide range of disciplines, including basketball, volleyball, karate, judo, weightlifting, duathlon, athletics, skating, softball, wrestling, and taekwondo.
