Devers Debuts at First Base with the Giants
Rafael Devers is getting ready for a milestone in his career. This Tuesday, the Dominican player will be the starting first baseman with the San Francisco Giants, facing the Atlanta Braves. This will be his first defensive participation with the team after his recent incorporation.
Devers, 28 years old, arrived at the Giants on June 15th in an unexpected move from the Boston Red Sox. The transfer occurred after disagreements with the management, due to the player’s refusal to change his position on the field.
The arrival of Gold Glove winner Alex Bregman to the Boston team during the offseason prevented Devers from maintaining his usual position.
Since his incorporation into San Francisco, the left-handed hitter had served as a designated hitter. In his first 29 games with the Giants, he batted .219, with an OBP of .333 and two home runs.
In Tuesday’s game at Truist Park, Wilmer Flores, from Venezuela, will be the designated hitter, while Devers will bat third.
