Deterioration of Quisqueya: $500K investment at risk due to poor condition of the grass

1 Min Read

Santo Domingo – The current condition of the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium’s grass has raised concerns following the dissemination of images revealing visible deterioration on the playing surface.

The fact has generated comments because, less than two months ago, state authorities and Major League Baseball (MLB) invested around USD$500,000 in the conditioning of the field. This investment was part of the preparations for the exhibition games of the Dominican team prior to the World Baseball Classic.

At that time, the goal was to ensure optimal conditions for the development of high-level matches and improve the quality of the field, considered a key baseball venue in the country.

However, recent conditions have reactivated the debate on the maintenance and durability of the improvements made. This is especially relevant, as the stadium will be one of the main venues for the upcoming Central American and Caribbean Games.

So far, no official report has been published explaining the causes of the deterioration or the possible actions to remedy the situation of the land.
