The Cuban Baseball and Softball Federation expressed its disagreement with Cuba’s exclusion from the 2026 Caribbean Series, following the change of venue for the event. Initially scheduled for Venezuela, the competition will move to Guadalajara, Mexico, from February 1 to 7.
The Cuban entity, through a statement on the social network X, described the decision as “disrespectful”. Although the original invitation to participate came from Venezuela, in its capacity as the initial venue, the Cuban Baseball and Softball Federation emphasized that it was endorsed by the Caribbean Professional Baseball Confederation (CBPC), the governing body of the tournament. The Federation criticized the lack of communication from the CBPC regarding a decision of such magnitude, which, according to them, invalidated the previous agreements and Cuba’s participation plan. The CBPC announced last Thursday that Guadalajara will host the tournament, after approving the proposal of the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacífico. This decision marks the return of the Caribbean Series to Mexico, where it was already held in 2018. The change of venue occurred after the leagues of Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic expressed their inability to attend the event in Caracas, due to circumstances beyond their control.“The change of scenario does not justify Cuba’s non-participation, which, moreover, deserves and demands respectful treatment, especially in a situation so sensitive for our sport”
