Barcelona mourns the loss of Carles Vilarrubí, a renowned businessman, gastronome, and former vice-president of FC Barcelona. Vilarrubí passed away this Sunday at the age of 71, leaving a significant legacy in the sports and business fields.

He was institutional vice president from July 1, 2010, to October 1, 2017. Linked to Barça from a young age, Vilarrubí also represented the club as a roller hockey player before beginning his outstanding career as a director. In addition to his work in sports, he was a successful businessman and gastronome, recognized with the Creu de Sant Jordi and president of the Catalan Academy of Gastronomy and Nutrition. During the mandates of Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu, Vilarrubí held the position of vice president. His resignation, on October 1, 2017, was due to his disagreement with the club’s decision to play a LaLiga match at the Camp Nou in a context of political tensions.

In 1992, he was CEO of Grand Península, but he resigned due to disagreements with the promoter of the Port Aventura project. In 2015, he was awarded the Creu de Sant Jordi by the Generalitat.
