Santo Domingo – The general manager of the Dominican Republic national team, Nelson Cruz, has announced an important development regarding pitcher Brayan Bello and his participation in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. Cruz communicated that Bello has been sent back to the Boston Red Sox camp, where he will continue his preparation. This decision, according to Cruz, responds to the Dominican team’s planning for the tournament.

We sent him to Boston to continue his preparation, because we only have three starters

Bello himself, through an interpreter, explained that he felt he would not be able to complete the necessary entries in the tournament with the selection. For this reason, he chose to temporarily return to his team. However, there is a possibility that Bello will rejoin the Dominican team this Sunday, if the Dominican Republic advances to the next phase of the championship. The Dominican rotation for the final phase, without Bello, would be headed by Luis Severino and Sandy Alcántara, two pillars of the pitching staff. Bello had an outstanding performance in the tournament, with the best opening by a Dominican pitcher so far, working five innings, striking out seven batters and allowing only one earned run.
