The match marked the first encounter between both teams after Rojas’ controversial statements on December 3rd. Licey fans expressed their disapproval through whistles and shouts every time the player approached the plate or participated in a play. This reaction was a direct response to Rojas’ criticisms of the umpiring body of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (Lidom). The previous Tuesday, the player generated controversy on social media by suggesting a refereeing bias in favor of the Tigres del Licey. Rojas argued that the refereeing decisions, both on the field and in the reviews, were not impartial and harmed the Giants.
