Records and Comebacks: An Unforgettable Week 1 in the NFL

The 2025 NFL season kicked off with an opening day full of emotions, records, and memorable performances. The Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens, Minnesota Vikings, Las Vegas Raiders, and Pittsburgh Steelers were some of the teams that shone, leaving an indelible mark on Week 1.

Buffalo Bills vs. Baltimore Ravens: An Epic Duel

The clash between the Buffalo Bills and the Baltimore Ravens was the highlight of the week. Led by Josh Allen, the Bills staged a spectacular comeback, overcoming a 15-point deficit in the final quarter to win 41-40. This achievement places the Bills as the fourth team since the year 2000 to achieve a comeback of this magnitude in the final minutes of the game. Despite the loss, the Ravens also set a record. They became the first team in NFL history to score at least 40 points, rush for 235 yards, and lose the game. For John Harbaugh, Baltimore’s coach, it was the eighth time his team lost a game in which they had a lead of at least eight points in the final period. Derrick Henry, Ravens running back, with 169 rushing yards and two touchdowns, tied Jim Brown’s record with 13 games of at least 150 rushing yards.

Minnesota Vikings: Comeback and Stellar Debut

The Minnesota Vikings also shone, coming back from a losing score against the Chicago Bears. With Jonathan James McCarthy at the helm, the Vikings, who were losing 17-6 at the start of the last quarter, managed to win 24-27. McCarthy had a brilliant debut, becoming the first quarterback in NFL history to score three touchdowns in the final quarter of his first game. His performance was compared to that of Fran Tarkenton, a Vikings legend, who achieved four touchdowns in his debut in 1961.

Las Vegas Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers: New Chapters

The Las Vegas Raiders also left their mark, defeating the New England Patriots 13-20. The match marked Pete Carroll’s debut as Raiders coach, who at 73 years old became the oldest coach to lead an NFL game. In New York, Aaron Rodgers had his revenge, leading the Pittsburgh Steelers in an exciting comeback against the Jets, his former team, with a score of 32-34. Rodgers, 41 years old, connected four touchdown passes in his debut with the Steelers, the most for the franchise since 2020.
