Bayron Matos, Dolphins Lineman, Rushed to Hospital

Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Bayron Matos, a Dominican, was airlifted to a hospital this Wednesday. The injury occurred during a team practice at their training facility in South Florida. Although the Dolphins have not revealed specific details about the severity of the injury, they confirmed that the 24-year-old player is in stable condition. Matos received medical attention on the field for more than ten minutes before being evacuated. Matos, born in Los Mina, Santo Domingo, was signed by the Dolphins on April 28, 2024 as an undrafted free agent. He is part of the NFL’s International Player Pathway program, designed to develop international talent. Before dedicating himself to American football, Matos excelled in baseball and basketball. At 16, he moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he played basketball at Hamilton Heights Christian Academy. His athletic ability led him to the University of South Florida, where he later switched to American football. Currently, Matos is looking to secure a spot among the 53 players on the Dolphins’ final roster for the 2025 season, which begins in September. He is competing for a position with other linemen. Wednesday’s session marked the official start of the team’s training. In addition to Matos, cornerback Artie Burns also suffered an injury and was seen on crutches. On the other hand, Minkah Fitzpatrick, a new reinforcement from the Steelers, has already joined the practices. Head coach Mike McDaniel assured that the veteran will fit well into the team’s defensive system. Regarding star receiver Tyreek Hill, McDaniel highlighted a “new attitude” from the player, who last year expressed his desire to leave the team:

“He has shown an unwavering commitment to rebuild his personality, based on who he wants to be and the success he wants to achieve,” said the coach.

The Dolphins hope to regain the health of the squad as they continue their preparation for the upcoming season, with the goal of competing again for a playoff spot.
