The team led by Diego Placente dominated the match from the start, materializing their superiority on the scoreboard with goals from Alejo Sarco, Maher Carrizo (who scored a brace), and Mateo Silvetti. Alejo Sarco quickly opened the scoring, taking advantage of a rebound to make it 1-0 in the 2nd minute. Maher Carrizo extended the lead with a precise free kick in the 23rd minute and sealed his great performance with another goal in the 53rd minute. Mateo Silvetti closed the scoring in the 66th minute, consolidating the Argentine dominance. Nigeria, which had eliminated Argentina in the previous World Cup, could not counter the Argentine offensive nor the team’s defensive solidity. Argentina will face Mexico next Saturday, October 11th in Santiago, in a crucial match for a place in the semi-finals.
