Matías Almeyda fired as Sevilla coach
Argentinian Matías Almeyda has been dismissed as coach of Sevilla FC this Monday, as announced by the club in a statement. The decision comes after the team’s defeat against Valencia (0-2) and with the team just three points away from the relegation zone. Almeyda managed Sevilla in 32 official matches, including 29 LaLiga EA Sports matches and 3 Copa del Rey matches. The coach arrived at the club last summer, leaving the team in a delicate position, sixteenth with 31 points. The team achieved 8 victories, 7 draws and suffered 14 defeats, showing a negative image, especially in the matches played at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán stadium. Sevilla FC is in negotiations to find a replacement for Almeyda. Luis García Plaza is one of the names being considered for the position, although other candidates such as Manolo Jiménez and Diego Martínez, both with experience at the club, are also mentioned. Almeyda, 52 years old, signed a three-year contract, until June 2028, with the aim of revitalizing the team and recovering the level shown in the past. During his time in charge of the team, Sevilla has accumulated 31 points, with 16 points obtained at home and 15 away. In addition, Sevilla is the most scored-against team in the First Division, with 49 goals conceded.“Sevilla FC wishes to thank the work of Matías Almeyda and his team in these months and wishes him the best of luck in his next professional challenges.”
