Alcaraz and Djokovic: Debut and Possible Matches at Wimbledon

The expected Wimbledon tournament already has its draws defined. Carlos Alcaraz, current champion, will face the experienced Italian Fabio Fognini in his debut. For his part, Jannik Sinner will face his compatriot Luca Nardi, while Novak Djokovic will begin his participation against the Frenchman Alexandre Muller. Alcaraz, who will defend his title, will have the honor of inaugurating the center court next Monday at 13:30 local time (12:30 GMT), following the tradition of the third Grand Slam of the year. A key aspect is that Alcaraz will avoid Djokovic, his rival in the last two finals, until a hypothetical final. The Serbian is in the upper part of the draw, and could face Sinner in the semifinals.

The Alcaraz Way

In case of passing the first round, Carlos Alcaraz’s path could be the following:
  • Second round: Leandro Riedi
  • Third round: Felix Auger-Aliassime
  • Round of 16: Andrey Rublev or Stefanos Tsitsipas
  • Quarterfinals: Holger Rune
  • Semifinals: Alexander Zverev or Taylor Fritz
  • Final: Sinner, Djokovic, Jack Draper or Lorenzo Musetti
Alcaraz will not have to face Alexander Bublik, recent champion in Halle and quarter-finalist at Roland Garros, which makes his path easier.

Spanish Participation

Other Spanish tennis players also have their matches defined:
  • Jaume Munar vs. Alexander Bublik
  • Alejandro Davidovich vs. Brandon Holt
  • Pedro Martínez vs. George Loffhagen
  • Roberto Bautista vs. Cameron Norrie
  • Roberto Carballés vs. Alex de Miñaur
  • Pablo Carreño vs. Chris Rodesch

Badosa Ready for the Challenge

Paula Badosa, who reached the round of 16 last year, will debut against the British player Katie Boulter. Badosa withdrew from the Berlin tournament due to an injury, but has already recovered, training at Wimbledon and ready for the Grand Slam. In her hypothetical path, Badosa could face Madison Keys in the round of 16, Aryna Sabalenka in the quarterfinals, and Jasmine Paolini in the semifinals, avoiding Coco Gauff, Iga Swiatek, Jessica Pegula, and Mirra Andreeva until the final.
