Sandy Alcántara Shines on the Mound, Leading the Marlins to Victory

Pittsburgh, USA – Sandy Alcántara, the outstanding Dominican pitcher, showed his best version this Tuesday, leading the Miami Marlins to a 3-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. Alcántara pitched six impeccable innings, consolidating his dominance on the mound.

With only 85 pitches, Alcántara controlled the opposing offense, allowing only three hits, one walk, and striking out six batters. This performance represents his third quality start of the season, breaking a personal streak of seven consecutive losses.

Despite facing challenges in the first three innings, the Marlins’ ace managed to come out on top. The crucial moment arrived in the third episode, where he overcame a situation with a runner on third and two outs, dominating Spencer Horwitz with a fly ball to right field after a full count.

From that moment on, Alcántara retired the last 10 batters he faced, showing remarkable consistency and control.

The Marlins’ bullpen backed Alcántara’s work. Anthony Bender pitched a perfect seventh inning, while Ronny Henríquez, although allowing two home runs in the eighth, one by Ke’Bryan Hayes and another by Oneil Cruz, kept his cool. Calvin Faucher closed out the game in the ninth, securing his fifth save of the year, leading the team in this statistic.

Regarding the offensive side, catcher Nick Fortes stood out by breaking his slump with a two-run homer in the third inning against Mitch Keller. This was his first home run since May 20th. Fortes had only had two hits in his last 22 at-bats before this important hit.

The offensive was complemented by a simple producer from Eric Wagaman in the fourth inning, who also had an outstanding performance with multiple hits.
