Craig Albernaz returns to the Orioles’ dugout after shocking injury
BALTIMORE – In a display of unwavering determination, Baltimore Orioles manager Craig Albernaz has returned to his duties after suffering multiple facial fractures and a jaw injury. The incident, one of the most dramatic of his career, has not prevented Albernaz from resuming his responsibilities at the helm of the team. The incident occurred during Monday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Albernaz, 43, was hit by a foul line drive, requiring immediate medical attention. Medical examinations revealed at least seven facial fractures and one in the jaw. Fortunately, surgery will not be necessary. Less than a day after the accident, Albernaz showed up at the stadium, visibly affected but in good spirits and willing to continue with his tasks. His return to the dugout is a testament to his dedication and strength.The hit that impacted Albernaz occurred while he was near the dugout railing. After the impact, he retreated towards the tunnel to receive medical attention. Despite the initial severity, Albernaz overcame the concussion protocol and received additional evaluations. During his stay in the hospital, he kept in contact with his family and received support from the players. Jeremiah Jackson, Orioles infielder and author of the hit, gave Albernaz the grand slam ball he hit in the same game, accompanied by an apology. Albernaz was discharged that same night and, although he will have to follow a special diet while he recovers, he feels good and ready to lead the Orioles.
