Abreu guides the Tigres del Licey to victory over the Gigantes del Cibao
SANTO DOMINGO.- Albert Abreu continued his outstanding performance from the mound, leading the 1-0 victory of the Tigres del Licey over the Gigantes del Cibao in an exciting game held this Thursday at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium.
Abreu showed his best version, obtaining his second victory of the season after a solid performance of six innings. During this time, he limited the opposing offense, allowing only three hits, striking out five batters and without giving up walks.
Abreu’s performance was key to securing the Blues’ second consecutive victory against the Giants in the capital.
The loss went to Steve Moyers, who allowed the only run of the game in five innings, giving up two hits, one walk and striking out four.
Licey’s bullpen fulfilled its function: Misael Tamárez pitched in the seventh, Anderson Severino in the eighth, and Jean Carlos Mejía closed the ninth without problems, securing the save.
The only run of the game came in the bottom of the fifth inning, thanks to a wild pitch that allowed Mel Rojas Jr. to score from third base.
With this victory, the Tigers (18-21) are positioned alone in third place, surpassing the Giants (17-22) by one game.
For the Giants, Samad Taylor, Nomar Mazara, and Pablo Reyes connected the team’s three hits.
For the Licey, Gustavo Núñez, Armando Álvarez, Mel Rojas Jr., Francisco Mejía and David Hensley each connected a hit.
