Abinader Delivers Renovated Las Caobas Sports Complex

President Luis Abinader inaugurated this Saturday the renovated Las Caobas Sports Center, located in Santo Domingo Oeste. The completely remodeled sports facility is intended for the training, recreation, and competition of the young people in the area. The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, whose ministry led the work, accompanied the president at the ceremony. The remodeling is part of the government program to rescue and dignify sports infrastructures nationwide. The investment in the renovation of the sports complex exceeded 34 million pesos, managed by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation (MIDEREC) under the direction of President Abinader.

“President, the young people are very happy, very grateful because this sports center is practically the only public indoor space with dignity in the municipality,” highlighted Minister Cruz.

During the event, the creation of a volunteer group for the care and maintenance of the sports center was announced. It was sworn in, with President Abinader as a witness. The volunteer work is headed by businessman Eddy Medina and includes the participation of figures such as the communicator Julio Martínez Pozo, the mayor Francisco Peña, Teodoro Adón, Alejandro Rejeda Brun, Agustín Matos, Gregorio Rosel Santos, Rolando Matías, Gregorio Almánzar, Marina Mateo and Santiago Lazo. The remodeling of the Las Caobas Sports Center included the reconstruction of the roof, the rehabilitation of the court, the repair of bathrooms and bleachers, improvements in lighting, general painting, installation of regulatory scoreboards and structural adaptations. The act was blessed by Father Santiago Rodríguez Palanca, vicar of the Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Among those present were Ángel de la Cruz, president of the Presidential Commission for Support of Provincial Development; the governor of Santo Domingo province, Lucrecia Santana, and the mayor of Santo Domingo Oeste municipality, Francisco Peña, as well as Agustín Matos, representative of the community.
