Road incident involves Migration vehicles in San Juan
A traffic accident that occurred this Tuesday in the province of San Juan left six people injured, following a collision between two transport units of the General Directorate of Migration (DGM). The event took place on the Francisco del Rosario Sánchez highway, while an operation was being carried out to transport foreign citizens in an irregular migratory status.
Event details
According to the official report, the incident originated at approximately 8:40 in the morning when one of the institution’s trucks suffered a tire blowout while in transit. This situation forced the vehicle traveling behind it to perform a braking maneuver; however, it was not possible to avoid the impact against the rear of the first truck.
The collision caused material damage to the vehicles and left five Haitian citizens and one Dominican driver with injuries, all reported in stable condition after receiving immediate assistance.
Medical attention and continuity of the operation
Following the impact, units from the 9-1-1 National Emergency and Security Attention System arrived at the scene to transport those affected to the Doctor Alejandro Cabral Regional Teaching Hospital, located in San Juan. Health authorities confirmed that all the injured are out of danger after being treated by medical personnel.
Despite the mishap, Migration authorities managed to resume operational tasks once the area was secured. The total group of people in custody amounted to 304 Haitian citizens, who were finally transported to the Carrizal border point, in the Elías Piña province, to complete their handover process to the corresponding authorities.
