Jannik Sinner misses the US Open due to physical discomfort
Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner, who currently leads the ATP world rankings, has officially confirmed that he will not be part of the main draw of the US Open. The player made this difficult decision after failing to reach the optimal physical condition necessary to compete at the highest level due to a persistent injury in his right knee.
Despite the efforts made by his medical and performance team at the Monte Carlo facilities, track tests showed that the athlete still requires additional time for his recovery. This withdrawal represents a significant blow to the final Grand Slam of the season, as Sinner was shaping up to be the main favorite for the title.
Obviously I am very sad and disappointed. New York holds a special place for me and I was hoping to return to compete in front of the tournament fans.

Impact on the tournament and next steps
The absence of the world number one significantly alters the configuration of the New York tournament, which will take place from August 30 to September 13. Sinner, who has not seen official action since his recent victory at Wimbledon, was also forced to decline his participation in the Toronto and Cincinnati Masters 1000 under the same medical recommendation.
According to the official statement, the Italian’s work plan will be as follows:
- Remain in Europe to continue with his rehabilitation treatment.
- Prioritize a full recovery together with his team of specialists.
- Focus his return to the courts for the Asian tour, specifically for the tournaments in Beijing and Shanghai.
With Sinner’s exit, the attention of the public and analysts in New York will now focus on other star figures of the circuit, including the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, who arrives at the American event with the responsibility of defending his performance on the North American hard court.
