DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Connor Zilisch, visibly emotional, shared a touching moment at Daytona International Speedway. After composing himself, Zilisch, moved to tears, used his shirt to wipe his face. The scene marked an anticipated announcement in the world of motorsports. The promotion of Zilisch, a 19-year-old prodigy, to the Cup Series circuit for 2026 was an open secret in NASCAR. Trackhouse Racing owner Justin Marks joked that the news “wouldn’t surprise anyone”. Marks confirmed the signing of a multi-year contract with Zilisch to compete full-time next year. Zilisch will take Daniel Suarez’s place in a Chevrolet with no number yet and will join Ross Chastain and Shane van Gisbergen, making up Marks’ three-car team.

I never imagined I would get anywhere in racing. My parents have supported me from day one, in every moment, the good and the bad.

Zilisch recalled moments when he doubted his path, questioning his decision to leave school and his friends to pursue his dream in motorsports. He acknowledged that, five years ago, he contemplated a more conventional life. His parents, visibly moved, witnessed the moment. Zilisch’s father highlighted his son’s unusual emotionality, known for his stoic character. Zilisch’s career in motorsport includes a prominent participation in karting, even in Europe at the age of 11. Since becoming a professional in 2021, he has achieved success in various series.
  • Winner of the 2024 Rolex 24 and the 12 Hours of Sebring.
  • Five ARCA race wins.
  • Two poles in the NASCAR Truck Series.
  • One win in a CARS Tour late model race.
Zilisch has been a Trackhouse development driver for two years, proving his worth at the top of NASCAR. He currently leads the Xfinity Series points standings. With eight wins in 27 Xfinity races, Zilisch has maintained an impressive streak of 12 consecutive top-five finishes, including a win at Daytona, where he was relieved by Parker Kligerman. Zilisch competed in the race less than two weeks after suffering a broken collarbone in an accident. Despite the injury, he was cleared to participate and Kligerman replaced him during the race. Zilisch celebrated with Kligerman at the finish line. The week before the race, Zilisch underwent surgery to stabilize the fracture. The accident occurred at Watkins Glen on August 9, when his foot got caught in the window net, causing a fall.

Connor is an exceptional talent that comes along every few decades. I’ve seen him grow from his karting beginnings to his performance in Trans Am racing. He adapts quickly to any challenge and his performance in Xfinity this season is historic.

Justin MarksMarks praised Zilisch’s maturity and composure, highlighting his preparation for the Cup in 2026. He mentioned the mentorship of Josh Wise and Dr. Eric Warren from General Motors. Trackhouse Racing has great confidence in the young driver. In the coming weeks, Zilisch’s car number, sponsors, crew chief, and crew lineup will be announced.
